WHAT
IS INCIDENT CONTROL?
An Incident Control function is set up to provide an
emergency response to a physical crisis at the premises
which is causing, or threatening to cause, a disaster,
for example a fire or flood. The most important objective
of Incident Control is to ensure the preservation of
life by:
- Preventing injury;
- Providing shelter; and
- Evacuating the premises, if necessary.
Other objectives of Incident Control
are to:
- Prevent the incident from escalating into a disastrous
event;
- Reduce and control the effects of the incident;
and
- Make sure salvage and repairs are started at the
earliest opportunity.
Incident Control does not replace
the Emergency Services. For example, if fire is threatened
or has broken out, the Fire Service must be called and
Incident Control must work with, or around, them as
appropriate. The presence of an Incident Control function
will reduce the likelihood of the BCP being invoked. |
